By Nina Opida, Co-Founder of Humble Sustainability
I woke up this morning with a burden on my heart.
Not about inventory. Not about listings or sales or what to post today. It was about three things — three things I feel like the world, and honestly my own life, keeps needing to come back to.
Faith. Hope. Love.
And somewhere in that quiet, it hit me: this is exactly what Humble is supposed to carry.
So I want to share that today. Not as a business update. Not as a product announcement. Just as a founder being honest about why we do what we do — and why these three things are the heart behind every second hand laptop, every refurbished phone, every device we send out the door.
The System Is Lying to Us Right Now
Let me be real with you.
The system we live in — the algorithm, the ads, the flash sales, the "only 3 left" notifications — it is all designed to make you feel like what you have right now is not enough. That you need the newest model. The latest release. And you need it now.
It creates fear. And fear makes us act before we think.
But here's what I keep coming back to:
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7
We are called to be mindful. To have a sound mind before we act on impulse. So before you click that buy button — maybe ask yourself:
- Do I actually need this?
- Does it fit my budget and my lifestyle right now?
- Why do I need a new one when what I have is still working?
Those three questions alone can save you money, save you stress, and honestly — save a perfectly good device from being replaced before its time.
And that's exactly why Humble exists.
Our unique selling proposition has always been value for money. Our goal is to bridge the gap — to bring affordable, overlooked devices to the people who genuinely need them. Because the market is only getting harder. The price of electronics keeps rising. RAM is becoming more expensive because the precious metals needed to produce it are growing scarce. Our natural resources are slowly being depleted. And every time that happens, the cost gets passed down — and the people who feel it most are the ones who can least afford it.
We saw that gap and we said: someone has to do something about this.
That's not just a business decision. That's a calling.
Why I Believe in Second Hand — And It Goes Way Back
Can I tell you something personal?
Growing up, my mom would take me to the ukay-ukay. Second hand clothes, second hand toys — that was just how we did things. And I never felt like I was missing out. I felt like I was finding treasure.
That feeling never left me.
When we started Humble, I already believed in this. Not because of a trend or a business opportunity. But because I grew up knowing that something pre-loved still has so much life in it. One man's trash really is another man's treasure — and I mean that with my whole heart.
So when I say I have faith in what we sell? I mean it. Every second hand laptop, every refurbished phone we list — I genuinely believe in it. I wouldn't sell it otherwise.
And that's why if you visit our website, you'll find my personal number there for customer service. Not a generic hotline. Not an automated reply. Me. Because I want to be the one to serve our customers — to hear their stories, to know how they're loving their units, to be there if something comes up. That brings me so much joy. Honestly, it's one of my favorite parts of running this business.
Faith — Because You Deserve Honesty
The system pushes you to buy fast, buy now, buy on impulse. We want to be the complete opposite of that.
No hype. No inflated descriptions. If there's a scuff, we tell you. If the battery isn't perfect, we tell you. What you see is what you get — and what you get has been checked properly before it reaches you.
We want you to come to us with a sound mind — take your time, ask questions, make a decision that actually makes sense for your life. No pressure. No urgency tactics. Just honest products and honest people.
And if we make a mistake — because we are human and sometimes we overlook things — we don't hide from it. We deal with it head on. We acknowledge the error, we make it right, and we keep going. Because at the end of the day, our goal is always honesty. That doesn't change even when it's uncomfortable.
That's how we bring back faith. Not with big promises. With honesty, every single time. Buying affordable second hand electronics shouldn't feel risky. At Humble, we want it to feel safe.
Hope — Because These Devices Can Change Someone's Day
Every device we source, we look at and think: who needs this?
There's a student somewhere who needs a reliable laptop but can't spend ₱40,000 on a new one. There's a freelancer starting out who just needs something that works. There's a working mom at home — trying to stay connected, manage her family, run her small business — all from one device. These second hand electronics can power up entire families. They keep people connected to opportunity, to income, to each other.
And the reality is — new devices are only getting more expensive. The price of RAM has been climbing. The cost of components keeps rising because the resources needed to make them are slowly being depleted. Demand is up, supply is being stretched, and that pressure gets passed down to the consumer every single time.
That's why second hand and refurbished electronics in the Philippines aren't just a good deal — they're becoming the smarter, more necessary choice.
We still believe in these devices. We still have hope for them. One man's trash really is another man's treasure — and we find that treasure, check it properly, and make sure it gets to the person who needs it most.
Love — Because Without It, This Becomes Just Another Job
Here's the honest truth about running a business.
If you're doing it without love — love for the people you're serving, love for the planet you're stewarding, love for the mission you said yes to — it will feel like a chore. You will run dry. Fast.
We do what we do at Humble because we love people. We want good, affordable tech to be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford brand new. We love this planet — and we believe God called us to be stewards of it. Not to drain it. Not to add to the waste. But to take care of it.
Every device that gets a second life is one less thing in a landfill. One less round of mining, manufacturing, and shipping. That's stewardship. That's love in action.
And maybe we won't see the full impact of what we're doing today. Maybe it's the next generation that gets to experience a cleaner world, a less depleted one. But that's exactly why we keep going. Love is not just for now — it's for them too. We do this for the children who will inherit this planet. We do this because we believe it matters, even when we can't see the results yet.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
— 1 Corinthians 13:13
When your vision is clear, you know where you're going. We're not doing this because it's a good business idea. We're doing this because we believe we were called to — to run something honest, hopeful, and full of love every single day.
This Is Why We're Here
Humble exists because of Faith, Hope, and Love.
Faith — in honest products, in our customers, in doing things the right way even when it's harder.
Hope — that good technology can reach more people, that second hand doesn't mean second best, that one device at a time, we can make a real difference in people's lives today.
Love — for people, for the planet, for the next generation, for the mission that gets us up in the morning even on the hard days.
If this is your first time here — welcome. We'd love for you to also read our first article where we talk about the practical side of what we do and why second hand tech in the Philippines makes so much sense right now.
And if you've been looking for an affordable second hand laptop, a refurbished phone, or quality used electronics in the Philippines — come find us. We'd love to help.
That's what Humble is here for.
Humble is a Philippines-based recommerce platform offering quality second hand and refurbished laptops, mobile phones, tablets, audio gear, wearables, and monitors. We believe good technology should be accessible, sustainable, and honest.
Speaking life and peace over everyone today:
